Frequently asked questions

The things customers ask most. Can't see your answer? Call 01264 527 017, email sales@andoverlaser.co.uk or send us an enquiry.

What file formats do you accept?

DXF and DWG are ideal — they carry the exact cut geometry so we can quote and cut straight from your file. We also accept PDF, STEP and clear photos or sketches to get started. No drawing at all? We run a full CAD service and can produce a cut-ready file from a sketch, an existing part or an old print.

What materials and thicknesses can you cut?

Mild steel and stainless up to 20 mm, aluminium up to 15 mm and brass up to 10 mm, with a maximum part size of 2995×1495 mm. Common grades include CR4 and S275 mild steel, 304 and 316 stainless, 1050/5251/5083 aluminium and CZ108 brass. Full detail is on the materials page.

Is there a minimum order?

No minimum quantity — order a single replacement part or a full production run. A £5 minimum order charge applies, and all prices are shown ex-VAT with 20% VAT added at checkout.

How long does a job take?

Most jobs are quoted the same working day and cut within a few working days, subject to material stock and current workload. Need it faster? Our sister service Next Day Laser dispatches same-day on orders placed before 9am. See our delivery & turnaround page for detail.

How do you work out the price?

Laser cutting is priced by how long the laser spends cutting your part and how efficiently parts nest into a sheet — not by the kilo. Cut-path length, the number of pierces, material and thickness, nesting efficiency and quantity all feed in. You get an instant indicative figure online; an engineer confirms the firm price after reviewing your file. Full breakdown on the pricing page.

Can I supply my own material?

Yes — bring in your own sheet and we'll cut it, or we'll cut from our stock. We hold a wide range of material so most jobs turn around quickly, and we can source specialist grades and finishes on request.

Do you offer folding, welding and powder coating?

Yes. As the trade laser arm of Hurstbourne Forge, we fold, weld, deburr and powder coat in-house, so you can buy a finished, ready-to-fit part from one supplier. See the full capabilities.

Can I collect, or do you deliver?

Both. Collect from our unit in Andover by arrangement, or we'll ship your parts across the UK. Delivery is quoted on the size and weight of the job. More on the delivery page.

Will you check my drawing before cutting?

Always. An engineer reviews every file for cut-path issues, confirms nesting and material stock, and flags anything that needs a tweak — tiny holes, sharp internal corners or thin tabs — before anything is cut. Nothing is committed until you approve the firm price and lead time.

Do you do one-offs as well as production runs?

Both, equally. A single prototype, a handful of replacement parts, or a repeating scheduled run — the price per part falls with quantity, and we're happy to discuss call-off arrangements for ongoing work.

Still have a question?

We're happy to talk it through. Send your drawing for an instant indicative price, or just get in touch.
